University of Science And Technology National Seminar On “Bioresources, Conservation and Management Strategies for Rural Development”

Department of Botany, University of Science And Technology, Meghalaya in collaboration with State Institute of Panchayat and Rural Development, Assam is organizing a National Seminar On “Bioresources, Conservation and Management Strategies for Rural Development” on 22nd & 23rd August, 2019

About The Seminar :
Bioresources are important components for progress and economic activities of a nation. But bioresources management and utilization for human welfare is very important. Awareness of the importance and implications of bioresources among common people as well as elite citizens for safeguarding and protecting the optimum and balance way of using the needs critical studies to focus the natural bioresources wealth for the benefit of not only the present generation but also to our future generations for their better, healthy and peaceful living our dear planet. The problems facing at present is the over exploitation of bioresources would not only have negative impact on the environment but also sometimes totally destroy and erode the important bioresources which are available at local level, regional level and national levels. Therefore, handling Bioresources in a proper manner in an appropriate way is important for the optimum use without over exploitation of our bioresources. Women need to be equally and actively involved in the processes to conserve and sustainably use biodiversity because they play critical roles as primary land managers and resource users, and they face disproportionate impacts both from biodiversity loss and gender-blind conservation measures. North eastern region of India has abundant natural resources and this region also considered as biodiversity hotspot.

Objective :
1. To study the diversity and opportunity of bioresources in rural areas.
2. To study the linkages between the bioresource and livelihood of the rural people and sustainable utilization and conservation of bioresources by the rural people.
3. To discuss the bio resourcing of rural economy, food habits and ethnomedicine.
4. To create awareness about bioresource conservation and management strategy.
5. Role of Government, NGOs in sustainable utilization and conservation strategies of bioresources.
