Central Agricultural University 2 Days Workshop on “Biocontrol of Crop Pests & Invasive, and Utilization of Insects as Food in North-East Region of India”
Central Agricultural University, Imphal and ICAR- NBAIR, Bengaluru are organizing a Workshop on “Biocontrol of Crop Pests & Invasive, and Utilization of Insects as Food in North-East Region of India” during March 6-7, 2020. Details are as follows:
About the Workshop:
North- East region of India has rich biodiversity of life and natural resources. Modern agricultural practices have established a fact that excessive and indiscriminate use of synthetic inputs including insecticides, fungicides, weedicides, fertilizers etc., have endangered the biodiversity, bio security, natural resources and human well-being.
Also, there is urgent need to address the challenges of invasive insect pests such as Fall Army Worm in Maize, rice pests, honey bee pests etc., through biological control as a component of IPM. To overcome the hazards associated with chemical pesticides, the use of biocontrol agent is increasingly being adopted. A great deal of knowledge has been gathered on the use of biocontrol agent for the management of pests and diseases. Biocontrol agents have offered some realistic alternatives to chemical pesticides when used as part of
an ecologically based integrated pest management or area-wide pest management strategy.
Further, as a part of containment program of crop pests, some of the life stages of coleopteran crop pests can be utilized/ promoted as human food and nutritional sources, keeping in view the food habits and cultures of the local groups and reduce the pestilence. Keeping in view the huge scope for growth of the biocontrol sector in NEH region, Central Agricultural University, Imphal and ICAR NBAIR, Bengaluru are organizing a Workshop on “Biocontrol of Crop Pests & Invasive, and Utilization of Insects as Food in North-East Region of India” under NEH program of ICAR- NBAIR, Bengaluru for resource personne engaged in extension/developmental officers of agriculture KVK SMS of CAU/ ICAR/ SAUs and innovative farmers of North-East states of India.
